Telehealth Appointments

Telehealth appointments are available, but sometimes subject to Dr Chan’s discretion or suitability.

The following table includes the current fee schedule for Telehealth appointments. Payment will be collected by phone at the conclusion of the consultation

Dr Chan also provides bulk-billed, short Telehealth consultations for existing patients (with current referral) for the following reasons:

  • Follow-up of results
  • Brief follow-up of a treatment plan
  • Brief discussion of progress of an existing problem

Typically, these families have been asked to call Dr Chan for follow-up and these follow-ups take the form of a telephone consultation.

Newborn hospital consultations

These fees refer to newborn patients that have been referred for review by Dr Brendan Chan on the hospital ward by the delivering Obstetrician.

Please note that these fees are not generally covered by private health insurance, but there may be exceptions, particularly for international private health funds. Please contact your private health insurance fund for further information/clarification.

These fees are part of the Medicare Benefits Schedule and thus are subject to the corresponding Medicare rebate for each scheduled fee.

When Dr Chan has been referred to look after a newborn child by the obstetrician, his schedule is typically as follows:

  • Attendance at delivery (includes Caesarean sections and any other deliveries where the obstetrician deems it necessary for a Paediatrician to be in attendance) to assess your newborn and provide care where appropriate, including newborn resuscitation if required.
  • Newborn physical examination

This may refer to either:

  1. An initial referral for a newborn check (Following a delivery that did not require Paediatrician attendance)
  2. A follow-up newborn check after attendance at delivery
  • Subsequent reviews

Dr Chan will typically review a newborn child on subsequent days to troubleshoot newborn problems. These reviews attract no out-of-pocket fee and will be bulk-billed.

Please find the following examples of typical fee schedules for newborn consultations on the hospital ward.

Example 1

Dr Chan has been asked to attend the birth of a child by elective Caesarean section.

In this circumstance, Dr Chan will attend the delivery, then follow up with a visit (typically the following day) for a newborn examination, and then check on the patient on subsequent days after this to monitor for problems such as jaundice and excessive weight loss.

The fee schedule for this example would be as follows:

Example 2

Dr Chan has been asked to complete a routine newborn check for a baby who has been delivered where he did not attend the delivery.

The fee schedule for this example would be as follows:

Newborn patients that have been admitted to the Special Care Nursery

If a newborn child requires admission under Dr Chan’s care in the Special Care Nursery, and the patient is covered by private health insurance, there will be no gap fee or out-of-pocket cost for the patient for the duration of the admission.
